Starting to build my fiddle yard

I have decided to start building the fiddle yard as this will give me experience of track laying and wiring, but will not matter if I have to redo it, or if the look is not quite right.

I have decided to lay three parallel tracks near the window with two double slips and a right hand point. There will be one entrance and one exit.

Hello model railway builders!

After retiring from my job, I have decided to convert the spare bedroom into the home for my model railway.

This blog will share with you my experiences and my discoveries. There are several choices to be made from the start.

  1. What scale should I choose? scales
  2. Where to build it?
  3. Roughly what type of layout do I want?
  4. DC or DCC? Comparison
  5. What country / region and era do I want to model?

I think that the first three choices are linked as I chose a medium complexity, building in my spare bedroom. If I chose a smaller scale like ‘N’, I would need less space or I could increase complexity. The larger the scale then the less detail I would be able to get into the same space.

So I decided on OO, Spare room, and a medium complexity mainly on the same level but with some height.
